What do Lutherans Believe?

The beliefs and teachings of Christ Lutheran Church & School are rooted in God's Word, and centered on Jesus Christ.

Below you will find a clear summary of what we believe and teach at Christ Lutheran Church & School.

Our Foundation

We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and the final authority for what we believe and teach. Through His Word, God reveals His will, His promises, and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Everything we confess as a church is grounded in Scripture and centered on Christ—His life, death, and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. Because of this, we do not build our beliefs on opinions, trends, or human ideas, but on the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

As a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, we also hold to the historic Lutheran Confessions as a faithful and accurate explanation of Scripture. These teachings guide us as we live out our faith, worship together, and share the hope of Jesus with others.

Core Beliefs

These are the foundational teachings we confess and hold to as a church, rooted in Scripture and centered on Jesus Christ.

The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. It is the final authority for what we believe and teach, revealing God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
God
We believe in one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, yet there is one true God.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins, and rose again, securing salvation for all who believe.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit creates and sustains faith through God’s Word. He works in our lives to strengthen us, guide us, and keep us in the one true faith.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not something we earn, but something freely given because of what Christ has done for us.
The Church
We believe the Church is the community of all believers, gathered around God’s Word and Sacraments. It is where we are strengthened in faith and encouraged to live out our calling as Christians.
Baptism
We believe Baptism is a means of grace through which God gives faith, forgiveness, and new life. It is not merely symbolic, but a gift from God for people of all ages.
Holy Communion
We believe that in the Holy Communion, we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ along with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith.
The Lutheran Confession (LCMS)
We are a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and hold to the Lutheran Confessions as a faithful explanation of Scripture. These writings guide our teaching as we remain rooted in God’s Word.

Why This Matters

What we believe shapes everything we do—from worship to teaching to how we care for one another. Our goal is not just to understand God’s Word, but to live it out in our daily lives.

Because of what Christ has done for us, we gather in worship, grow through His Word, and serve others with love. These beliefs are not just ideas—they are the foundation for how we live as His people.
