“Judge not, that you be not judged.”
It's one of Jesus' most famous teachings—but what does it actually mean?
Does Jesus mean we can never say something is right or wrong? Should Christians never correct or challenge one another?
In this message, Pastor Eric Clausen continues our Sermon on the Mount series and explores the difference between judgment that Jesus condemns and the righteous discernment Scripture encourages.
The difference comes down to the heart:
❤️ Is it done in love?
🙏 Is it done in humility?
✝️ Is it done in faith?
Jesus tells us to look at ourselves before pointing out the faults of others. Before worrying about the speck in our neighbor's eye, we need to recognize the log in our own.
That doesn't mean we never help, challenge, warn, or encourage one another. It means we never do so because we believe we're better than someone else.
Because whatever righteousness exists in us isn't something we've earned.
It's a gift from Jesus Christ.
Through His death and resurrection, we are forgiven and made children of God. So we approach others not with superiority, but with the humility of people who know:
✨ There, but by the grace of God, go I.
